The cousins on America’s Most Desperate Kitchens expanded my very limited knowledge on design styles this evening. I was and still am a bit fuzzy on what exactly Hollywood regency is, but I definitely wasn’t thinking this:
I think the point was that they mixed subtle Hollywood regency-esque elements in with other aspects of the homeowners’ style, but if they didn’t point out the floor tiles or gold grout, it would be totally lost on me! I’m more used to seeing full on commitments to Hollywood regency with a fresh twist:
However, I’m not even sure I would land on Hollywood regency for those photos, but maybe something more generic, like just an eclectic style.
The use of raw materials and earth tones from the desperate kitchen makeover threw me off as well. But it all works! Those cousins always create amazing environments with unique details for the homeowners.
I’m super digging the wallpaper and the color palette. However, the wood counter and vent hood are not my style. I’m also unsure about the constellation of lights on the dining room ceiling. I always love a good chandelier! Also, those fixtures give me flashbacks to some shoddy DIY work done at my home by the previous owners.
What do you think about Hollywood regency? Or the lighting constellation pictured above? What’s your favorite decor style? What are your thoughts on this desperate kitchen makeover?
