Back to old school

It’s been a rough few weeks in our household! Well, relatively speaking… Life is good 🙂 Our washer just broke. Once again, my parents came to the rescue and helped with a few loads of laundry. I felt like I was in college again! Dropping off laundry also “gave my mom a reason” to stop by and play with pup. It was a win-win!

I have been / am still traveling quite a bit for work in August, but being home for the weekend, I decided that Saturday was the day to resolve my washer issue! I came close to pulling the trigger during some late night online shopping (Thanks to my west coast work trip my timezones were all mixed up!) on Thursday and Friday. I had my sights set on a Samsung…

Like our current broken washer, this Samsung washer was high efficiency, however unlike our current broken washer, this Samsung had a pretty sweet troubleshooting process involving a smart phone. Checking error codes on our current washer gave me flashbacks to marathon video gaming sessions! (Up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right…)

I came to my senses Friday afternoon. I ran across the measurements of this Samsung washer and thought I should probably see how much room we have in our tiny laundry room! Current washer was 25.5″ deep and the Samsung is 29″ deep – Our wall is only 27″ deep! Crisis averted, I restarted my search with this measurement in mind.

It seems as if there isn’t really a standard depth for washers, and the new, high efficiency ones are pretty deep! After more searching and review reading, I decided on a GE…

Again, with parental help and their awesome pick-up truck, my dad and I purchased, brought home, and installed said washer. I was so excited!

Pro Tip: Be sure to check out HHGregg in comparison to Lowes & Home Depot, etc when appliance shopping. After online chatting with these retailers about price matching, I found that the big box home improvement stores have higher prices with free delivery, while HHGregg has lower prices, but charges for delivery. We didn’t need delivery, so we saved around $80. And I saved another 10% by signing up for HHGregg emails!

I woke up this morning and started my Sunday laundry ritual with my new machine. It was glorious! To me, its an “old school” washer (not high efficiency & has a traditional agitator), but I couldn’t be happier with it. I don’t need all of those bells and whistles. I just need a machine to wash my clothes. And that it does!

The washer also came with this snazzy instructional magnet. Nothing revolutionary, but I love Youtility when I see it!

It’s nuts how one appliance not working can throw your whole routine off. What machine can you not live without?
